Digital tools for cognition, designed by our scientists

Research Programs

We have strong – and growing – partnerships with researchers.

There have been over 100 peer-reviewed research publications using our software and data, including numerous articles in top-tier scientific and medical journals. Publications using Lumos Labs software and data span several disciplines:

  • Evaluation of Lumosity’s effectiveness for clinical and healthy populations*

  • Development and use of digital biomarkers for brain and cognitive health

  • Basic research in cognitive psychology and neuroscience

  • “Big data” investigations of population health

*Lumosity is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Collaborators

We support trailblazing research with the Human Cognition Project.

Through our Human Cognition Project (HCP), we give researchers free access to our software and data. Over 100 researchers from around the world have been accepted into the HCP, including groups from leading research institutes.

In addition to granting access to our software products, we are committed to the thoughtful and responsible sharing of our unique and powerful data set. This set includes over 100 million individuals around the world, 7 billion cognitive game completions, and 5 million cognitive tests, plus several surveys and subject-reported outcomes. Along with Professor Mark Steyvers at UC Irvine, we were proud to receive the first-ever award for research data stewardship from the Future of Privacy Forum.

Product Design

We transform research into digital products that engage and delight.

1. Research

Our scientists research well-known methods of training cognitive abilities like Memory and Attention, adapting tasks or creating our own.

2. Design

Our game designers and scientists work together to design game mechanics that effectively challenge a particular cognitive ability.

3. Bring to Life

We create the game, crafting fun themes and adding features that enliven the activity — keeping brain training both fun and challenging.
